The Illinois Valley Power Squadron
is primarily an educational organization. Read the June 2011
Journal Star
editorial.
Our mission is to provide the boating public with information that will help them to safely operate their boats and personal watercraft. We provide that information through boating courses scheduled several times each year. We also actively participate in the United States Coast Guard's Vessel Safety Check Program,
where trained and certified Vessel Safety Examiners inspect watercraft free of
charge to insure that they comply
with all federal and state regulations.
But we are also a social organization, holding events, cruises, and dinners throughout the year. Our
members regularly boat on the Illinois River, the Great Lakes, and other lakes
and rivers throughout the country.
Chartered in 1973, and located in Central Illinois (Peoria), the IVPS is one of the 17 Squadrons in District 20.
Our district includes all of central and northern Illinois, southern Wisconsin,
and northwestern Indiana. Click here for links to the national and district
maps. Nationally, there are more than 450 Squadrons
affiliated with the United States Power Squadron®
grouped into more that 30 districts.
